This is one of David's local bike riding routes, a 60 miler. We will be adding more rides over time. Speaking of bikers, check out these pictures from the Wines of Washington Bicycle Team. David's 60 Miler Take interstate 82 East through Yakima. Take Exit 40, turn right and park at the park and ride just on the right. Go right out of the park and ride. .3 miles - turn right across the Parker Bridge .3 miles - you have to turn left onto North Track. This road has some really bad pot holes so be careful. It’s boringly straight and flat. 4.5 miles Stop sign in the middle of Wapato go straight through staying on North Track. 11.1 miles Welcome to Toppenish. At the end of North Track (there is a fire station on the left) go across Buena Way onto Asotin. At Les Schwab Tire Center go left onto Lincoln Avenue. 1.0 miles At the end of Lincoln Avenue turn right on to “L” street. .7 miles At stop sign turn left and on to South Track. This is a good road, flat and fast. Have you warmed up yet? The hills are coming you can see them out there on the left. 3.8 miles At the stop sign go left. There is no road sign but it’s Hwy 223 North. Go over the RR crossing and the Yakima River. 2.5 miles Turn right onto Emerald Road. This is a hard right. Warm up is over. We’ll start with some easy hills first. 1.3 miles Turn Left onto Cherry Hill. This is only a short way to the top but a nice leg burner. At the top is the old Stewart Winery. If you look hard enough you can probably find some water faucet to refill bottles if you need to. .6 miles Going down Cherry Hill you’ll find Gap Road. Turn right onto it. 2.0 miles. At this stop sign you’re at Luther. If you want Luther is only a mile and one of the steepest climbs around. Great downhill once you turn around at the Transfer Station. But when you’re finished with Luther and back at the stop sign turn left and go under the freeway. You come to Yakima Valley Highway and straight across Luther turns into Dekker. If you want to avoid the hills turn left onto Yakima Valley Highway and follow it all the way back to your cars. 5.6 miles At the top of Dekker this is getting fun eh? Turn left onto Houghton. 2.0 miles Nice view at the peak of Houghton of Mt Adams and the valley. At the stop sign turn right onto Beam. And then left again onto Houghton. 3.0 miles Nice rollers you’ve just gone through. Now you have to go left onto Highland 2.4 miles Turn right onto Roza (on the left you’ll see Maisson d Padgett). 1.0 miles At the top of Roza you have to go left onto Gilbert. The winery on the left is Sheridan… good stuff. 2.9 miles At the end of Gilbert turn right onto Knight Hill 1.1 miles At the “T” of Lombard Loop Road turn left and stay on this road as it winds it’s way up the hill. 1.9 miles After a nasty little leg burner and then a short downhill turn right onto Nightingale Road. 3.7 miles At stop sign you are now on the top of Konnowac Pass and its all downhill now. 2.2 miles At the Konnowac Pass “Y” turn left . I don’t know what this road is named because the sign is down. .7 miles Turn right onto Laframboise Road .5 miles Turn left onto Gamache Road. This road sign was down when I mapped this out too, but it’s the first left. 1.9 miles Gamache Road turns into Thorp road. Stay on this it will take you back to the cars. 3.1 miles Thorp Road becomes Yakima Valley Highway and just on the other side of the freeway is where you parked your cars. |
